Dave Benfield assumed he would follow the footsteps of his father as an electrical contractor. That world turned in on itself as soon as he discovered homebrewing. As soon as Dave shifted his focus solely on brewing his business lifted off the ground and hasn’t slowed down yet. DuClaw Brewery is located in Baltimore, Maryland.

Onto this beer with a very interesting catchphrase. The urban legend is that this is the phrase first-time drinkers proclaim after their first sip. This dark rich ale gets rave reviews. It has a strong chocolate peanut butter flavor that is comparable to Reese’s cup. It is smooth, malty, hoppy, and balanced.

In 2004 Rob Miller began homebrewing. In eight years he had 200 recipes and had quite a little home business going. Friends and family were lining up to purchase Rob’s beers and he knew he had something big. After several years of searching for the perfect location and fixing up the one he found, all the hard work paid off. Dangerous Man opened early 2013 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

How does this peanut butter porter do in taste tests? This one has a light nutty/peanut smell with tones of milk chocolate. Upon tasting, it starts off with a strong peanut butter taste with dark chocolate notes in the background and finishes with the taste of dry-roasted peanuts. It has a light body and a dark color which moves nicely on the tongue. The light sweetness really balances the flavors and ties everything together.

With a degree in finance, Rick Seibt decided that wasn’t exactly where his heart wanted to lead him. He made his very first batch of beer in 1990 at home and was immediately enthralled. Eight years later in Willoughby, Ohio Rick opened the doors to his brewing company where he still remains today. Even though demand is through the roof they maintain small numbers of batches due to limited space. For right now there doesn’t seem to be any desire to change facilities but who can say what the future holds.

Ready to hear all about the Nut Smasher beer? The peanut butter is not the main star but rather a nice complement to chocolate and coffee. This stout beer is almost black in color with a light brown head. It is moderately sweet and slightly bitter with hints of malt. It finishes with peanut butter and chocolate taste and is very creamy. Just about every taste tester is in love with this one as it gets rave reviews.

Rapp Brewing

A small brewery located in Seminole, Florida they pride themselves on artisanal brews in small batches. Brewmaster and founder of a homebrew club Gregory Rapp opened Rapp Brewing in 2012. The interest of craft beers was just emerging in Tampa and Rapp knew he had something amazing to offer. At the time of opening Tampa only had about 10 other breweries in the city but today there are well over 100. Even with competition exploding, Rapp Brewing maintains its uniqueness and broad flavor palates.

Onto this chocolate peanut butter stout. It tastes like roasted peanut butter and chocolate malt with hints of toffee and salt. Peanut butter is definitely the prominent taste with this one. It has a medium body and is semi-dry. It is so popular that it has become a mainstay on tap. For right now you can only get this delight if you live or visit nearby. However, stay ready because Rapp Brewing is in the works to begin distribution.

The brewery was founded with the intention of crafting a broad range of quality beer. However, it was going to be done having a good time and encouraging others to relax, enjoy and be a little silly. They currently have two locations in San Diego, California and two in Vista, California.

Let’s talk about this peanut butter milk stout because I know it sounds interesting. Milk stout married with roasted peanuts and peanut butter milk stout is born! This one gives off scents of roasted peanuts, chocolate, and coffee. It is smooth, slightly sweet, and well balanced. A lot of taste testers say that it reminds them of Reese’s cup with flavors that blend well and don’t fight one another.

They recognized that the two of them had something to offer the world of brewing and they were going to bring this dream to life. The pair started brewing, formulating and perfecting their recipes. Terrapin brewing has been located in Athens, Georgia since 2007 as they continue to grow and brew.

So what do we think of their peanut butter porter? Upon smelling this one you get peanut butter, chocolate and hints of roasted malt. Most taste testers felt like chocolate came through much stronger than peanut butter almost overpowering it. Others enjoyed that the chocolate took center stage with peanut butter lingering in their mouth long after the beer was swallowed. It has a medium body so it feels satisfying in the way you think peanut butter and chocolate should be. Everyone agreed that it’s a smooth beer that brings you on a tasting journey.

It all started with Jason Moore who began brewing his own beer in 2008. He spent years on his hobby testing out processes and sharing his results with family and friends. Soon after friends Jeff Pedro and Kurtis Stadsvold joined in and the three spend nearly every weekend brewing beer together. Fast forward to December 2015 and the doors to their brewery officially opened in Springboro, Ohio.

Now for the beer. This barrel-aged porter is very popular and gets great reviews. A crisp dark malt with peanut butter and chocolate flavors as it moves through your mouth. It’s slightly sweet and has a dry finish.

Playing off the strengths and weaknesses of each other, the guys not only found success but also freedom and fulfillment. The brewery is located in Lafayette, Colorado.

So, how does their peanut butter porter taste? Let’s just start off by saying, yes, it smells exactly like peanut butter and you might start to drool. It’s a dark and rich beer with hints of peanut and chocolate that aren’t too overpowering or intense. Some taste testers got more peanut taste than others since it is on the lighter side. It is thick and creamy with a smooth finish.

In the mid-’80s two college friends, Chris Cramer and Matt Rattner, decided to open a brewery in San Diego, California. It was a pretty new concept not only for the pair but for the city of San Diego as well. You see, craft beer wasn’t really a thing in the ’80s. Chris recruited the help of his cousin, Karl M Strauss, who happened to be a master brewer. In 1989 the doors of the brewery officially opened and they continue to thrive as one of the founding craft breweries in San Diego.

Let’s talk a little about their peanut butter cup porter. This beer has a light to medium body when poured and a thin texture upon tasting. Some taste testers felt that the texture should be more creamy. It has a robust peanut butter scent along with notes of chocolate, caramel, and vanilla. The peanut butter taste is definitely not as strong you the smell might lead you to believe it would be. The flavors of both peanut butter and chocolate play nice together.
